Film and Movie Blogs We Love

Welcome to Blog Profiles! Each week, we select an industry or subject and a handful of sites that do a good job with promoting and blogging about the space. Do you have a blog that deserves recognition? Tell us why @BeyondBylines.

(Note: This post was updated on 8/16/21.)

I’ll let you in on a secret.

I literally can watch a movie over and over again, sometimes several times within the same day, and countless times over the course of, well, forever – much to my husband’s dismay. And it’s not like I actually watch the movie – I more listen to it and look up when a favorite scene appears.

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with the movie, Man of Steel, which has been on HBO a bunch. (The week before that, it was The Great Gatsby. And the week before that, I couldn’t get enough of Les Miserables.)

And, I am quite curious about Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

So I figured this was as good a time as any to check out some movie and film blogs.

Check out our more recent roundups with our favorite blogs covering movies, cult films, and scary movies.

FirstShowing

FirstShowing is about “connecting Hollywood with its audience.” It is managed by founder and owner Alex Billington.

“There are the people who make movies and there are those who see them,” the blog says. “FirstShowing is bringing these two together in a profound new approach that will change the way you experience movies. We provide the latest movie news, movie trailers, movie reviews, interviews, opinions, hype and buzz, and everything else related to the cinematic experience straight from Hollywood and beyond.”

Talk about a cool site.

A couple of posts immediately caught my eye: First photo of Henry Cavill in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and Andre 3000 is Legend Jimi Hendrix in ‘Jimi: All is By My Side’ Trailer.

And this interview with Hugh Jackman on the Lessons He’s Learned from Wolverine.

/Film

/Film “features blogging about the “reel world.” It was created years ago by Peter Sciretta after a “stint writing full time for the AOL-owned movie blog Cinematical.”

The first post to catch my eye was rooted in Harry Potter: Diagon Alley Tour Part 4 (Wait, there are three others that I missed?): Wiseacres, Scribbulus, Wands by Gregorovitch, Quality Quidditch. So then I quickly dug up the one prior: Diagon Alley Tour Part 3: Florean Fortescue, Ollivanders, Gringotts Bank, Magical Menagerie.

Incidentally, these are fun. And we’re only just beginning.

Another post I enjoyed was this review — ‘Life Itself’ is a beautiful tribute to movies, criticism, and of course Roger Ebert.

/Film also features a Cool Stuff archive of art, books, gadgets, and gear.
