The 2014 holiday shopping season will be characterized by cautious spending, while economic realities bifurcate the American holiday shopper. These are two of the 10 big trends that are expected to drive the 2014 holiday shopping season, according to a new report from PwC US and Strategy.

Las Vegas Welcomes Same-Sex Couples to Say ‘I Do’ With Dazzling Wedding Celebrations

It’s official, Las Vegas just got more fabulous. On Oct. 7, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the same-sex marriage ban in Nevada.

Record 61.8 million U.S. Residents Speak Foreign Language at Home

Nearly 62 million U.S. residents now speak a language other than English at home — an all-time high. A new report by the Center for Immigration Studies, based on recently released data from the Census Bureau’s 2013 American Community Survey, shows that one in five U.S. residents over age four speaks a foreign language at home.

The number of foreign language speakers grew 2.2 million since 2010. This growth was driven almost entirely by an increase in Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic speakers. See the full release to learn more about the report.

Steve Martin To Receive 43rd AFI Life Achievement Award

Sir Howard Stringer, chair of the American Film Institute’s board of trustees, announced on Oct. 3 the board’s decision to honor Steve Martin with the 43rd AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor for a career in film. The award will be presented to Martin at a gala tribute in Los Angeles on June 4, 2015.

The 43rd AFI Life Achievement Award tribute special will return for its third year on TNT when it airs in June 2015, followed by encore presentations on sister network Turner Classic Movies (TCM).  See the full release to learn more.
