Black Entertainment Blogs

Welcome to Blog Profiles! Each week, PR Newswire selects an industry or subject and a handful of sites that do a good job with promoting and contributing to the conversation. Every February, we like to celebrate great examples of blogs to honor Black History Month.

This week, we’re looking closer at black entertainment.

Global Grind considers itself “hip pop” – the hip side of pop culture.

“Our evolved segment of users (18-49 years old) drives and influences trends in culture, fashion, music and style,” Globalgrind.com says, mentioning it provides a platform for “an active, multicultural audience to consume and interact with compelling content and unique digital experiences.”

This is a cool site.

Some of my favorite posts include Natural Appreciation: Every Time Blue Ivy’s Baby Hair & ‘Fro Were Flourishing & Beautiful, “Married at First Sight” Star Vanessa Nelson on Intense Casting, Wedding Nerves and Finding Love in the Most Unconventional Way, and Gwen Stefani Announces New Album on Twitter.

Black Celebrity Giving aims to share “news, videos and photos of celebrity philanthropy, nonprofit organizations and causes that directly correlate with the black community.”

Founder and editor Jasmine Crowe created the site in 2011.

I liked this site for a lot of reasons, including timely features about people giving back.

Interesting posts include Why First Lady Michelle Obama is the Ultimate Change Maker, Tons of Black Celebrities Give Back to Flint, and Robin Roberts Named Honorary Harlem Globetrotter; Team Announces the Great Assist Initiative and 90-Year Celebration.

The Young, Black, and Fabulous is a popular black celebrity gossip blog.

Natasha E. is the writer and editor behind the site, which officially launched June 2005.

This is a pretty fabulous blog.

Several posts caught my eye, including Jourdan Dunn & LIONBABE Pose It Up at Vogue 100 Party + Raven Symone, Naomi Campbell & More Hit Up ‘Zoolander 2’ NYC Premiere, Kanye West will Gift You a Free Pair of Yeezys if You Can Guess His New Album Title, Says Next Collection will Focus on Kids’ Clothes, and Find Out What Beyonce’s Stylist Ty Hunter Said About Her New Album + Brandy, Sevyn & Jeremih Party With Tyrese During Super Bowl 50.

Urban Belle covers black celebrity news, which says “media just got a little more dope.”

The site actually is an online magazine for black women.

“Founded due to the lack of more realistic publications for young and educated black women, Urban Belle, a raw online magazine for black women was launched by three women with one vision: making a dent in media,” it says.

Notable posts include Omari Hardwick Explains How Denzel Washington Saved Him for Homelessness, LA Reid Talks Failing Whitney Houston, and Chris Rock Speaks up for Black Actresses.
