From Tunnel to Track, the AECOM-Arup Joint Venture Engineers New York City’s Newest Subway Line

The AECOM-Arup joint venture is celebrating the completion of the first phase of the Second Avenue Subway for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). It is the first major expansion of New York City subway system in nearly a century, the 1.8-mile stretch of track runs between 63rd and 96th streets and consists of three new stations, plus one upgraded station. The AECOM-Arup joint venture provided full engineering and architectural services for Phase 1 of the $4.451 billion landmark project, which broke ground in April 2007. “The on-time completion of the first phase of the Second Avenue Subway is a major achievement. The engineering and design ingenuity represents our best-in-class approach to large scale transit projects,” said Julie D’Orazio, senior vice president, NY Metro Transit/Rail Manager, at AECOM. Sears Holdings Announces Secured Standby Letter of Credit Facility

Sears Holdings Corp. announced on Dec. 29 that it has obtained a secured standby letter of credit facility (the “LC Facility”), which provides the company with additional liquidity to fund its operations.  The LC Facility will allow the company to request standby letters of credit in an initial amount of up to $200 million and may be expanded at the request of the company and with the consent of the lenders under the facility by up to an additional $300 million. The LC Facility is being provided by JPP, LLC and JPP II, LLC, which are affiliates of ESL Investments Inc., with Citibank N.A. serving as administrative agent and issuing bank. United Van Lines’ Annual National Movers Study Shows Retirees Leaving Sand and Sunny Beaches for Western Mountains

South Dakota narrowly overtakes Oregon, which held the top spot for the previous three years, as the nation’s “Top Moving Destination.” This is the first time South Dakota has held the number 1 spot. Vermont inched out Oregon for the number 2 position, with Oregon rounding out the top three. Those are the results of the United Van Lines’ 40th Annual National Movers Study, which tracks customers’ state-to-state migration patterns over the past year. Stanley Black & Decker Reaches Agreement to Purchase Craftsman Brand from Sears Holdings

Stanley Black & Decker and Sears Holdings Corp. announced on Jan. 5 that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Stanley Black & Decker will purchase the Craftsman brand from Sears Holdings.  The transaction provides Stanley Black & Decker with the rights to develop, manufacture, and sell Craftsman-branded products in non-Sears Holdings retail, industrial, and online sales channels across the U.S. and in other countries.  See the full release to learn more details of the deal.

Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite: Orkin Releases New Top 50 Cities List

Baltimore tops this year’s Top 50 Bed Bug Cities list, released on Jan. 3 by pest control leader Orkin. In the six years Orkin has released the bed bug city rankings, this is the first time Baltimore has made the top five, moving up nine spots since last year. Four metro regions — Las Vegas, Nev.; Portland, Ore.; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Greensboro-High Point-Winston Salem, N.C. — made the list for the first time this year.
