I’m a cat person.

But I think my family (Read: son) is beginning to want a dog.

I’m perfectly OK with this. I grew up with dogs, and I’m looking forward to this next chapter of pet ownership and companionship.

In the meantime, I’ll continue with my homework, reading up on the care and commitment that dogs require. Someday, my family will be ready to welcome our newest member home.

1. The Dog Blog

You may have heard of Zuke’s – a Durango, Colo.-based pet food company that produces dog food, dog and cat treats, and supplements. It also writes The Dog Blog.

I like this site a lot because of its informative and interesting posts.

Notable posts include Hiking with Senior Dogs: How to Enjoy Their Golden Years to the Fullest, First Aid on the Trail: 3 Common Dog Injuries You Need to Know, Hot Dogs: Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke in Dogs, and 6 Tips for Road Tripping with Your Dog.

2. Jen’s Dog Blog

Dr. Jen’s Dog Blog covers the “adventures and musings of a behavior vet and dog trainer.”

According to the blog, Dr. Jen focuses on “treating behavior problems including aggression, separation anxiety, and compulsive behavior issues.”

“I’ve created this blog to share my passion for all things training-related, provide easily accessible training and behavior information to dog owners, and celebrate my experiences in the strange, wonderful world of dogs and the humans who love them,” she says.

Interesting posts include Nuisance Behaviors and ‘Naughty’ Dogs: Whose Problem Is It, Really?, “Can I Pet Your Dog?” Why It’s Always OK to Say No, and Solutions for Separation Anxiety: How to Make “Alone Time” Less Scary.

3. iHeartDogs.com

Siberian rescue Splash largely is the inspiration behind the launch of iHeartDogs.com.

“Believe it or not, most of my life I had little interest in dogs,” writes Justin Palmer. “As a child I suffered from severe allergies to most pets, including dogs. I happened to marry a dog lover, so shortly after we tied the knot, my wife and I entered the ‘puppy phase’. You know, that point where you’re not ready yet to have kids, but you want a furkid.”

I liked several posts on iHeartDogs.com.

My favorites include What is Distemper and Should I Worry About My Dog Getting It?, Ask a Vet: Does My Dog Need Sunscreen?, and Recipe: A Watermelon Cocktail For You & a Mocktail for Your Pooch.

4. Life With Dogs

Life With Dogs initially began as a personal blog of writer Neil.

“I’m just a regular guy with a huge soft spot in my heart for dogs,” said Neil, who lives in Northern Vermont. “When I’m not elbow deep in business hassles you may find me here, toiling away at the keyboard in an effort to keep bringing you the best the net has to offer when it comes to all things dog.”

You honestly could spend quite a bit of time on this site. There’s so much to enjoy here.

I liked This Adorable Couple Adopts a Dog Every Year for Their Anniversary, Naughty Dog Sends Himself to His Room, and Why Losing a Dog Can Be Harder Than Losing a Relative or Friend.
