On July 25, the Rose-Coleman family issued the following statement: “The Branson, Missouri duck boat disaster has devastated the Rose-Coleman family. The tragic loss of 17 duck boat passengers, including nine members of our extraordinary family, has left us in complete shock as we struggle to mourn the deaths of three generations of family members ranging in age 1 to 76.”

Farmers’ Almanac’s Teeth-Chattering Forecast Melts Rumors of Mild Winter

If cold temperatures, above-normal snowfall, and biting winds aren’t your favorite, you’re not going to like the forecast from the 2019 Farmers’ Almanac. “Teeth-chattering,” “biting,” and “stinging” cold are a few of the adjectives the Farmers’ Almanac is using to describe the upcoming winter, and not only in northern areas.

Sears Holdings Initiates Processes to Accelerate Strategic Transformation and Facilitate Financial Restructuring

Sears Holdings Corp. on Oct. 15 announced a series of actions to position the company to establish a sustainable capital structure, continue streamlining its operating model and grow profitably for the long term. To facilitate these actions, the company and certain of its subsidiaries have filed voluntary petitions for relief under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

NASA InSight Lander Arrives on Martian Surface to Learn What Lies Beneath

Mars has just received its newest robotic resident. NASA’s Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport (InSight) lander successfully touched down on the red planet after an almost 7-month, 300-million-mile (458-million-kilometer) journey from Earth. InSight’s two-year mission will be to study the deep interior of Mars to learn how all celestial bodies with rocky surfaces, including Earth and the Moon, formed.

TIME Names the 2018 Person of the Year: The Guardians

On Dec. 11, TIME named “The Guardians” the 2018 Person of the Year. TIME Editor-in-Chief Edward Felsenthal wrote, “Today, democracy around the world faces its biggest crisis in decades, its foundations undermined by invective from on high and toxins from below, by new technologies that power ancient impulses, by a poisonous cocktail of strongmen and weakening institutions.
