Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall Riots and celebrates the LGBTQ+ community. June 1 also is #LGBTQFamiliesDay, created for individuals, families and allies to celebrate and support LGBTQ+ families.

As we’re also between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, I thought it would be a perfect time to recognize a few standout LGBTQ+ parenting blogs.

These blogs offer personal stories of parenting as well as valuable advice and resources on adoption, surrogacy, IVF, education, and more.

1. Gay Parents To Be

Gay Parents To Be is an information resource for LGBTQ+ parents that was founded by Dr. Mark Leondires after he realized how challenging the journey can be. The blog also features The Voice, a monthly newsletter covering topical family-building advice, information and stories.

The site has helpful information for dads-to-be (choosing an egg donor, surrogacy, adoption, etc.), moms-to-be (IVF, finding a sperm donor, costs, etc.), as well as information for trans parents-to-be.

Regardless of how readers are looking to build their family – biological, adoption or fostering to adopt – this blog is a great resource.

2. Daddy Squared

This blog and podcast were created by Yan Dekel, a former entertainment journalist currently working as a digital consultant for the LGBTQ community. As he explains on the site, “I’m here to tell the truth about parenting — the good, the bad and the ‘we should have known.’”

The issue of kids’ screen time is one I hear come up often among friends, more so during the pandemic. Dekel addresses this sensitive parenting issue in the post “Normalizing Kids’ Screen Time.”

And if you’re looking for a gay parenting podcast, check out the one Dekel co-hosts with his husband, Alex Maghen. The greatest hits episode features clips from the first three seasons of the show and will give you a good taste of what it’s all about.

Season 4 of the podcast debuted in April 2021. Each episode features Yan and Alex speaking with gay dads around the world. They discuss equal rights and options for gay men in each respective country.

3. Mombian

The GLAAD Media Award-winning Mombian is a lifestyle site that provides “sustenance for lesbian moms” through a mix of posts covering parenting, politics and resources. Dana Rudolph founded the site in 2005 and has since also launched #LGBTQFamiliesDay.

Posts include recipes, community member spotlights, parenting tips, current events and more. The Diversions section highlights unique artists (authors, singers, etc.) that create LGBTQ-inclusive projects for kids.

Also, make sure to check out the database of LGBTQ family books and media.

4. Raising My Rainbow

This is a blog we’ve recognized before, and it continues to be one of our favorites. Written by Lori Duron, Raising My Rainbow chronicles her “adventures in raising a fabulously gender creative son.”

Duron’s gender nonconforming son C.J. wrote in a 2020 post, “I’m 13 years old. I am a member of the LGBTQ community. My gender identity is male and my gender expression is female. That means that I’m awesome.”
