March 1-3: Journalism Pivot Academy
Pivot Academy is a five-day online course covering what to do after a media layoff or buyout. The academy is taught by Theola DeBose, creator of the Life After Journalism course and founding partner of GraySide Media Group. The academy is free. The March 1 session will cover the upside and what’s possible now; March 2 will cover how to set a life after journalism; and March 3 will serve as an intro to the Life After Journalism course (an 8-week online event for journalists that teaches the step-by-step process to create and launch a new career beyond the newsroom).
March 4-5: SearchLove San Diego
SearchLove is a two-day event, bringing together some leading thinkers in online marketing. Attendees will get up to speed on the latest in search, analytics, content creation, optimizing their websites, paid promotions and more. The event takes place at the Kona Kai Resort & Spa in San Diego.
March 8-17: SXSW 2019
SXSW features a variety of tracks that allow attendees to explore what’s next in the worlds of film, culture, music, and technology. The conference spans 25 tracks of programming and offers opportunities for networking and learning. SXSW is held every year in Austin, Texas.
March 20-22: Social Media Marketing World
Imagine top marketers delivering their best content — tips and tactics that work — just for you. Then, picture yourself mingling with marketers in the most amazing networking experiences. That’s Social Media Marketing World. 2019 sessions include Facebook ads, Instagram marketing, analytics, video creation, YouTube for business, and Messenger bots. The event takes place at the San Diego Convention Center.
March 24-29: Alt Oasis
Alt Summit is the premiere conference for creative entrepreneurs and stylish social media influencers. The conference features classes and information for a broad range of skill levels. 2019 marks 10 years and 15 sold-out events for Alt Summit. This year’s conference is being called Alt Oasis, and it features double the time frame with six days of content, triple the size with 2,000-plus attendees, and quadruple the locations with classes and sponsor spaces at four spots in Palm Springs, Calif.
April 3-7: Craftcation
Craftcation: Business & Maker’s Conference is an annual four-day conference at the beach in Ventura, Calif. The conference features expert instructors leading attendees in business and craft workshops as well as social gatherings to connect with fellow attendees. Most workshops and events are at the Ventura Beach Marriott.
April 11-12: 2020 Campaign Journalism Conference
The University of Chicago Institute of Politics and Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard are putting on this conference for journalists covering the next presidential election. The conference is free and open to journalists from all platforms, but registration is required and space is limited. The deadline to register is March 15. The conference will focus on key elements of the upcoming presidential race, while examining how a more forward-looking, responsive type of coverage can better serve voters and adapt to fast-changing narratives. The event takes place at Google headquarters in Chicago.
April 11-13: Snap Conference
Snap is a conference for creative lifestyle influencers and some of the best bloggers representing modern handmade, contemporary craft, mind-blowing home-based events and DIY, along with dozens of creative entrepreneurs. Organizers are expecting about 350 attendees this year. The event is held in Salt Lake City.
