Blog Profiles: Southern Blogs
Welcome to Blog Profiles! Each week, we select a topic and handful of blogs that do a great job contributing to the conversation. We’re continuing our regional blog roundup series with this list is Southern blogs. Do you have a blog that deserves recognition? Tweet our writers at @BeyondBylines.
In my recent “Blog Profiles” posts, I’ve recognized some outstanding blogs in the Western and Midwestern regions of the U.S. (Update: The list of Northeastern blogs is available now!)
Next up is the South.
This region has its own unique food, music, and heritage that make for plenty of great blogging material.
Do you have another great Southern blog? Let us know in the comments!
1. This Is My South
This is a great blog for anyone visiting or living in the region who is looking for things to do. The team of writers for This Is My South covers the South’s best entertainment, dining, and hotels.
I recommend checking out the Small Town Saturday series for great guides to locales outside the major metros.
The blog also includes First Timer’s Guides to popular events like Music Midtown in Atlanta and Grains & Grits in Tennessee.
I enjoyed reading North Carolina’s Most Charming Mountain Towns (That Aren’t Highlands); A Grown Up Guide to Williamsburg; and Girlfriend Getaway Guide to Franklin.

2. Art&Seek
Art&Seek covers the arts, music, and culture scene for Northern Texas. The posts will “introduce you to the people who create art in North Texas, take you back stage to see how work is created and illuminate the many ways that art touches our lives.”
The impressive events calendar is great for finding upcoming concerts, plays, classes, and more.
Readers can learn about unique local artists in the “Artist Profiles” section, and if they’re looking for activities for the kids, “Art&Seek Jr.” has them covered.

3. Southern Bite
This list wouldn’t be complete without at least one blog dedicated to Southern food, and Southern Bite is one of the best ones around.
Blogger Stacey comes from a long line of cooks and uses his posts to share family recipes passed down through four generations. “It’s just one of the many ways a Southerner expresses love to another person. We feed them,” he says on the site.
His recipes are easy to follow, use local ingredients, and are perfect for feeding a family.

4. Authentic Florida
The team at Authentic Florida is “devoted to the unique treasures of Florida living with a splash of kitsch.” The blog has won the Sunshine Award for “Favorite Travel Blogger” multiple times and is a great resource for anyone spending time in Florida.
From Miami to Orlando, the Keys and the Everglades, there’s a lot to see and do in The Sunshine State. Check out the 2019 Authentic Florida Bucket List (hopefully a 2020 list is coming soon!) and find plenty of other posts on the best food, activities, and attractions in the area.
Uncovering Florida’s Quirky Accommodations; Get Authentic on Anna Maria Island & Cortez Village; and Five Ways to Befriend a Manatee: Start with a Visit to Crystal River, Florida are good reads.
