Reporting with Pride: 6 LGBTQ+ News Sites
From time to time, an industry or subject inspires us to create a best-of list. In case you’ve missed some of these, you can find them here. In our latest roundup, we’re recognizing a few LGBTQ+ news sites dedicated to covering the latest news impacting the community. If you think your site should be considered, give us a holler and tell us why.
The LGBTQ+ community has historically been both misrepresented and under-represented in general news. In the wake of recent events, many members of the community and allies rely on news sites rooted in diversity to report up-to-date and crucial information for matters that are impactful to their lives.
In honor of Pride Month, and in light of the continuous fight for gender identity and sexual orientation equality, here are six news sites bringing you breaking news as it relates to both the present and the future of the queer community.
1. Under the Desk News
Under the Desk News began as a TikTok account created by Vitus “V” Spehar to provide short-form news stories to TikTok users daily. They have since developed a following of 3 million users who have flocked to this news source for the inclusivity of V’s reporting and the all-around safe space they have created.
On this page, you can find recent developments regarding anti-trans legislation and other headlines relevant to the LGBTQ+ community. V also has a segment called “Good News Only!” where they rapid-fire good news to help break up some of the negativity that surrounds much of the current events.
“Sometimes TikTok superstar V Spehar needs more than a minute to bring you the news.” So V also has a podcast called V Interesting, where they frequently uplift LGBTQ+ voices and go in depth about recent developments that require more time than the short-form TikTok space allows.
