July 12-15: NAHJ 2023 International Training Convention & Expo
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) will hold its annual expo in Miami, Fla. Latino journalists and other media professionals from around the world will gather for four days of professional development, training, top-rated speakers, and social events. Sessions will include “Misinformation/Disinformation in the U.S. Latino Community,” “Latinx Representation In Journalism, Weather Coverage and Connecting Stories,” “How BIPOC Public Media Editors and Senior Producers Can Shape More Diverse Coverage,” and much more.
July 14-15: NAMLE Conference
The National Association for Media Literacy’s (NAMLE) annual conference provides valuable resources, technology, teacher practice and pedagogy, assessments, and core concepts of media literacy education. The virtual event is open to educators, practitioners, scholars, and concerned citizens alike.
July 17-20: TBEX North America
The “Home of Travel Creatives” will welcome content creators and travel industry professionals to Eau Claire, Wis. In addition to networking with industry experts, creators will have the opportunity to boost their skills in travel writing, photography, video creation, and more.
July 19-21: Association of Alternative Newsmedia Annual Conference
This year’s AAN conference will be held in person in Dallas, Texas. The two available tracks cover Editorial/Design and Revenue/Marketing. “The Hows and Whys of Reproductive Justice Reporting,” “50 Story Ideas in 50 Minutes,” and “Collaborative Journalism = New Revenue” are just a few of the sessions on the schedule.
July 20-22: College Media Mega Workshop
This event from the Associated Collegiate Press trains college journalists and advisors on a variety of topics to help them succeed in the coming academic year. This year’s workshop will cover a variety of topics, including design, audience engagement, photo/video, digital reporting, and social media. The Mega Workshop will take place in Minneapolis, Minn.
July 20-23: Comic-Con International: San Diego
The ultimate convention for lovers of comics and all things popular art returns to San Diego this month. From anime to film, comics, gaming, and beyond, there’s something for nearly everyone at this popular event. Due to the ongoing Hollywood writer’s strike and a possible strike by SAG, several studios like Disney and Netflix will not have the same presence as in previous years, but attendees can still expect to see the latest from Warner Bros., Max, Paramount Pictures, and others.
July 27-29: Haven Conference
The Haven Conference is “where DIY, home décor, and lifestyle creators learn, grow, and connect.” Beginner and advanced breakout sessions are available for the first time in the event’s history. Platform best practices, tax tips, how to use AI for content creation, and podcast monetization are just a few of the topics that will be covered over the course of the conference. Haven will be held in Atlanta, Georgia.
Aug. 2-6: NABJ 2023 Convention & Career Fair
The annual convention for the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is the “premier multi-day conference for journalism education, career development, networking, and innovation.” This year’s event will take place in Birmingham, Ala., and it’s packed with more than 200 trainings, sessions, and workshops. Sessions will cover topics like investigative journalism, sports and social justice, the impacts of AI, newsroom diversity, and more.
Aug. 10-13: Book Passage Travel Writers & Photographers Conference
Now in its 31st year, the conference offers an array of workshops, panels, evening activities, and informal interactions in a collegial atmosphere. Intensive workshop sessions each morning will focus on the basics of travel writing. Optional pre-conference classes will be devoted to travel photography and writing as well as the general beauty of the craft.
