Multiple Dates: Freelancing with Tim
Workshops from Freelancing with Tim are back after a long hiatus. Four events are scheduled for October:
- Oct. 4: Pitch perfect: Everything to know about pitching stories
- Oct. 5: How to write better personal essays
- Oct. 11: The art of structuring a longform feature
- Oct. 12: How to use social media to find freelance work
Oct. 12: News Impact Summit: Elevating Climate Journalism
This one-day event is hosted by the European Journalism Centre and will take place in Lisbon, Portugal. Discussions will address “the challenges and opportunities faced by climate journalists in an era of rapid technological advancements and growing climate urgency.” Keynote presentations will be complemented by hands-on, interactive sessions.
Oct. 5-26: Smart Data Master Class
The International News Media Association will host this month-long series of sessions focused on a range of data-related topics. The four modules will take place on Thursdays throughout October. Modules will cover topics like news personalization, generative AI, and newsroom analytics.
Oct. 18-21: FinCon 2023
FinCon is for anyone creating personal finance content, from bloggers to podcasters, freelancers, and influencers. The event will teach attendees how to create better content, grow their audience, and make more money doing it. Sessions will cover financial wellbeing, retirement planning, finance for business owners, and more. #FinCon23 will take place in New Orleans.
Oct. 23-27: Web-Writing Workshop
This workshop from Wylie Communications will focus on writing for web pages on mobile devices. Learn how to get to the point faster, effectively structure a web page, and write copy that will cut through the clutter.
Oct. 29-Nov. 2: Fall National College Media Convention
Collegiate journalists, media students, and their advisers will gather in Atlanta, Georgia, for four days of sessions, speakers, critiques, and contests. The convention is “the place to seek solutions to the most challenging publishing and broadcasting problems, share success stories, see what’s new in the media marketplace, and network with students and advisers from across the nation.” Sessions will cover how to make a living writing, photography skills, press freedom 101, video storytelling, and much more.
