June Events
Multiple Dates: U.S. Election Safety Summer
This free webinar series is hosted by the Committee to Protect Journalists, the International Women’s Media Foundation and PEN America. It runs from June 4 to July 30 and will help journalists prepare for coverage of the U.S. general election and related events. Webinars will provide safety guidance ensuring physical safety when covering rallies and protests, understanding the legal rights of journalists, and addressing psychological safety and mental health. June sessions will be:
- June 4: Risk Assessment and Planning for Journalists in the Field
- June 11: Online Abuse Self-Defense
- June 18: Protecting Against Hacking and Doxing
- June 25: Legal Rights and Resources: Covering the 2024 Election
June 5-7: Craft + Commerce
Boise, Idaho, will host the event where “top online creators gather to help grow their businesses.” Inspiring keynotes, intimate workshops and plenty of networking opportunities will round out the schedule. “The Trojan Horse Strategy: How to Pick a Profitable Niche (That Doesn’t Feel Limiting)” and “Deliverability Deserves a Keynote: 3 Strategies to Stay Out of the Spam Folder” are just a few of the sessions on the schedule.
June 5-7: PJMA 2024
The annual Public Media Journalists Association conference will take place in Washington, DC. This year’s event will “focus attention on how local news plays a vital role in strengthening democracy and build the capacity of public media journalists as they cover the 2024 elections.” The schedule includes a wide variety of session topics, including “A Workshop For Math-Averse Reporters,” “How To Collect Good Audio And Correct Bad Audio,” “Mindfulness for Journalists” and “Make Politics Boring (Again): Outfoxing AI, Deepfakes & The Nationalization Of Local Politics.”
June 6-9: Health Journalism 2024
This event, hosted by the Association of Health Care Journalists, will be held in New York City. “Join us for an unparalleled event as we bring together journalists, health care professionals, policymakers and experts from various fields to explore and discuss the latest trends, challenges and innovations in health journalism,” the site says. In addition to the 75 sessions covering a variety of healthcare topics, three uniquely themed field trips for journalists registered for the conference will be available.
June 14: AI + Transparency: How newsrooms can build and maintain audience trust
The Online News Association (ONA) and Trusting News will host this virtual, practical training on building trust through transparency about AI use for your journalism. Come away with best practices for explaining your newsroom’s AI policies in a way that builds trust with your community.
June 18: Image Creation Tools
ONA will host this session to help journalists write AI prompts to create images, fact-check images to determine if they’re AI-generated, and examine legal, ethical and attribution/transparency issues with using the software. The session will explore tools like MidJourney, DALL-E, Adobe Firefly and more. The virtual event will be hosted on Zoom.
June 20-23: IRE 2024
The annual investigative journalism conference will take place in Anaheim, Calif. The packed weekend will feature nearly 200 sessions covering a wide variety of topics. Some of the sessions include “Fighting for time: How to make the most of your best investigations,” “Investigating climate change,” “Gender & reproductive rights track: Covering the local beat” and “AI and automation for the local beat.”
June 26-28: GlobalFact 11
GlobalFact is the world’s largest fact-checking summit, presented by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) at the Poynter Institute in partnership with Zašto ne. Tracks will include Reporting and Editing, Sustainability, Public Policy, AI/Technology, Media Literacy, and Research and Political Science. The event will be held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and virtual tickets will also be available.

July 9-12: TBEX North America
Travel content creators will attend TBEX to boost their writing, photography, and video skills, network with other creators, travel experts, and tourist boards, and more. Dozens of workshops, sessions and forums will fill the schedule. TBEX North America will take place in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
