April 1-10: What journalism can teach you about effective communication
This four-part course from the Associated Press will show how effective writing can lead to better outcomes. The actionable tools, tips and feedback will benefit writers of all skill levels as you dive into journalism principles, craft your own story using the fundamentals and network with your peers.
April 2: The Future Press: Testing AI in Journalism
This hourlong virtual session from the Online News Association (ONA) will offer an in-depth look at a project from the Dallas Morning News Innovation Endowment. Journalism students tested the boundaries of AI in media production by using ChatGPT, Bing AI and Google Bard to generate content for publication. Find out what was required for editing and refining the AI-generated content.
April 7: Safeguarding your journalism against legal threats
During this timely webinar from Poynter, hear from the experts as they share their experience defending press freedom and navigating legal challenges. Learn about the legal strategies used to challenge and suppress reporting and come away with practical strategies for protecting your own journalism.
April 9: Mini-Lab: Advanced Prompt Writing
ONA will put on this 45-minute lab during which attendees will design a no-code website using AI and use tools to test the code for malware. Participants will be given a handout with links to all the prompt templates.
April 9-13: International Journalism Festival
Perugia, Italy, will again host the International Journalism Festival, the largest annual media event in Europe. The schedule is full of sessions on topics like AI, climate, local news, press freedom, investigative journalism and much more.
April 25-26: Georgia Pinners Conference
Head to Atlanta for 200+ shops and 100+ hands-on workshops covering topics like macrame, journaling, candle making, makeup tutorials and sourdough starters. If you cover crafting, DIY, food or decor, this could be a great event to learn about new trends and develop your own skills while you’re at it!
April 29: Public Health Journalism: How community health workers can be the key to your reporting
Part of a public health journalism series from the National Press Club Journalism Institute, this webinar will show you how to engage with community health workers who “are on the frontlines of local issues, have earned the trust of those they serve, and can act as a liaison to potential sources.” The webinar is open to the public at no charge.
April 30: Advanced AI Data Journalism Tools
This is a follow-up training from ONA – but you don’t have to have attended the initial webinar in order to participate. The webinar will cover AI tools that can help with data analyzation, summarization, data cleaning and data scraping.

May 5-7: World Press Freedom Day
Following World Press Freedom Day on May 3, this event from UNESCO will focus on how AI is reshaping media, journalism and information. Learn about “the future of journalism, explore the transformative power of AI in media, engage with global experts and innovators, and tackle critical challenges at the intersection of technology and press freedom.”
May 7-8: Hacks/Hackers AI x Journalism Summit 2025
This two day event will offer hands-on workshops, real-world case studies and collaborative sessions that explore the ways AI can enhance journalism by strengthening journalism, streamlining workflows and more. Reporter, editors, product managers and technologists are encouraged to attend.
May 8-June 5: Will Work For Impact: Fundamentals of Investigative Journalism
This five-week, hands-on seminar from Poynter will include 60-minute sessions every Thursday. By the end, attendees will be able to spot investigative opportunities, know what questions to ask and how to find the right information. You’ll also construct an investigative story of your own. May 20-22: 2025 Lenfest News Philanthropy Summit
Join The Lenfest Institute for Journalism and Press Forward in Philadelphia for this interactive conference for journalism fundraising and development professionals. Topics will focus on communicating the value of local journalism to funders, long-term fundraising planning, the basics of news fundraising and more.
