Heading into the busy holiday season, journalists and bloggers still have plenty of unique events to add to their calendars. Topics covered over the next few weeks include social video creation, feature writing, radio/TV forecasts and more.

Nov. 5: How to Make Scroll-Stopping Social Videos Solo
Join this workshop from the Online News Association to learn how to create a social video—including filming techniques, curation, scriptwriting and video editing—without the support of a full social team. Get real time feedback in a safe space for filming yourself on camera and come away with one piece of mock content to take back to the newsroom.
Nov. 6-8: Society for Features Journalism (SFJ) Conference
SFJ is back with its first official national conference since the pandemic. To inspire attendees and provide actionable strategies, the conference sessions will “focus on craft and on current realities affecting the journalism industry, such as artificial intelligence and other existential quandaries” that didn’t exist at the time of the last conference. This year’s event will take place at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Nov. 6-8: Pinners Conference & Expo (Utah)
Experience 130 classes to learn the latest trends in beauty, fashion, arts and crafts, cooking, and more. This event is a great opportunity for DIY bloggers and writers to get hands-on experience with the topics they cover. The schedule includes sessions on holiday decor, wood burning, color analysis, Canva tips and much more.
Nov. 10-13: Web Summit
The “world’s premier tech conference” will take place in Lisbon, Portugal. Educational masterclasses and roundtables will be available at the event, which aims to “gather policymakers, heads of state and the founders and CEOs of technology companies and fast-growing startups to ask a simple question: Where to next?”
Nov. 11-12: JournalismAI Festival
This annual event, supported by the Google News Initiative, invites “journalists, editors, and media leaders to explore how artificial intelligence is transforming newsrooms worldwide.” The in-person event will take place at Prospero House in London, and virtual tickets are also available. Some of the sessions announced include “The Newsroom Singularity: Has AI Become a Co-Author?” and “How Small Newsrooms Can Compete in the AI Arms Race.”
Nov. 12: Radio TV Forecast Conference
Broadcast media leadership will gather in New York City to forecast trends, expectations and revenues for 2026. Floyd Abrams, the nation’s foremost First Amendment attorney, will deliver the keynote address in which he will “explore the pivotal role of free expression in an evolving media environment and what the next era of legal and ethical challenges means for broadcasters, journalists, and advertisers.”
Nov. 13: Establish (or Improve) Your Email Newsletter
Being able to reach your audience directly via a newsletter provides a strong return on investment (both time and money). This 90-minute webinar from Writer’s Digest University will cover best practices for email newsletters, mistakes to avoid, and the pros and cons of popular newsletter platform Substack.
Nov. 14-15: Pinners Conference & Expo (Arizona)
Escape the winter weather and head to Scottsdale, Ariz., for 120 workshops and classes covering the latest DIY, food and home decor trends. The expo floor will also feature 300+ top shops providing beautiful options in the worlds of home crafts, cooking, photography, party planning, scrapbooking, fashion and more.
Nov. 18: Take care of yourself, too: A Mental Health Reporting Project Webinar
Poynter will present this free, one-hour webinar, hosted by Poynter faculty Kerwin Speight and award-winning journalist, Carter Center fellow and healing practitioner Margo Snipe. Come away with embodiment practices to help foster a greater sense of wellness, an understanding of how stress and trauma impact your body, and ways to take a break from the news cycle to rest and regroup.
Nov. 20-24: 2025 Global Investigative Journalism Conference
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is the site of this year’s annual conference, which is expected to attract 1,500 journalists from over 100 countries and territories. Over 150 state-of-the-art sessions will cover online search techniques, best practices for cross-border collaboration and exiled media tips and tools. Special tracks on climate change, the threat to democracy, crime and corruption, human rights, teaching and training, and sustainability strategies will be available.
Nov. 25: The Definitive AI Forum for Media, Information & Events
During this one-day event in London, organized by Flashes & Flames and MediaVoices, attendees will experience interviews, fireside chats, panel discussions and MasterClass workshops focused on the impact of AI in the short and long term, and how media companies are implementing their AI strategies.

Dec. 1-5: Essential Skills for New Managers
During this five-day, in-person workshop from Poynter, first-time managers or those on the path to becoming one will learn how to establish credibility, manage former peers, and provide effective feedback to help their team improve.
