GOP Convention, Day 3: From Panels to Protests

It was a tense third day at the GOP Convention.

Whereas on Day 2, journalists and media were ramping up for session to open at the Quicken Loans Arena (“The Q”), the air remained relatively peaceful. (A reporter with Independent Journal Review even asked PR Newswire Audience Relations Manager Anna Jasinski to join him for a video game; she graciously declined. Too busy!)

Media Row in the Garage was packed with VIPs, delegates, and journalists. Over the crowd, you could hear what sounded like bowling pins toppling over — a giant game of Jenga constantly was in play.

By Day 3, protests heated up, and Media Row began to feel the crunch of the convention conclusion. The tension was palpable.

PR Newswire audience relations managers Christine Cube and Jasinski ran into some tricky spots with protesters clashing with law enforcement. (A flag was burned just outside their lunch spot. They also narrowly escaped an escalating protest outside The Q, where many were arrested.)

The team spent part of the morning with The Washington Post, listening in on a panel on immigration and national security with Reps. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) and Steve King (R-Iowa), who answered questions from WaPo editors.

After making another round through the Media Center at the Cleveland Convention Center to make sure folks were receiving the official convention feed, the team viewed convention coverage with POLITICO and later, The Hill Newspaper.

The PR Newswire audience relations team continues to connect members of the media with convention news on PR Newswire for Journalists.

It’s not too late to receive convention material, especially if you’re interested in releases and copy during the Democratic National Convention next week in Philadelphia.

PR Newswire also is releasing political campaign and election news through November. Reach out to the team for more information or email media.relations@prnewswire.com.
