As we enter the last quarter of 2022, the number of events for journalists and bloggers may go down, but there are still plenty of unique learning opportunities in which to take part.

Check out the events below to see if one fits your needs and schedule. Upcoming events cover a range of topics, from election coverage to travel writing, craft blogging, and more.

Anytime: Midterm Essentials: Election Issues Local Broadcast Journalists Should Know

Sign up for this free, self-directed course from Poynter ahead of the midterm elections in November. The goal is to “help journalists ask more informed questions and demand more solid answers about five complex issues facing America in the 2022 midterm election cycle.” It will cover issues important to voters, including climate change, inflation and the economy, health care and drug costs, immigration, campaign finance, guns and gun control, and disinformation.

October 6: News Impact Summit

The News Impact Summit, from the European Journalism Centre and the Google News Initiative, is back with an in-person event this year. Taking place in Prague, this year’s theme is The Future of Editorial. It will bring together “local and international media experts to celebrate editorial innovation in journalism and to reimagine the future of news together.” Topics will cover digital tools, story formats, and the fight against misinformation.

Oct. 7: Alt Summit

Creative entrepreneurs, bloggers, pinners, and influencers will be heading to the Alt Summit, which is teaming up with The Riveter, an organization focused on supporting women in the workplace. Attendees are “looking for opportunities to follow their passion, find meaningful work, and contribute positively to the world.” This year’s event will take place at Pier Sixty in New York City.

Oct. 7-8: Pinners Conference (Indiana)

DIYers will have more than 100 craft-focused workshops and classes to choose from at the latest Pinners Conference, taking place in Indianapolis. Attendees can choose from classes on jewelry-making, embroidery, fall decor, soap-making, charcuterie tips, and more.

Oct. 12-14: TBEX North America

Travel content creators will be heading to Lafayette, Louisiana, for TBEX North America. They will learn how to improve their travel writing, photography, and video skills, network with travel industry experts, and just have fun in a popular destination. More than 30 sessions will be available and will cover topics like content creation, content marketing, influencer marketing, social media marketing, and SEO.

Oct. 12-14: #NewsMedia Business Summit

This event is put together by the 360 Media Alliance, E&P Magazine (Editor & Publisher), the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association, and I-SCMA. It will offer news execs “a program totally targeted for news media execs with a daily mission to create journalistic content, build an audience and monetize it.” It will take place in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Oct. 14: Voter Accessibility: Improving your election coverage for people with disabilities

Join the National Press Club Journalism Institute for a virtual discussion among experts in voter access, disability representation, and accessible news coverage on best practices to cover disabled voters and highlight voting access issues they may face. The discussion comes at a critical time, as recent coverage shows state and local measures intend to reduce voting by absentee ballot, limit access at polling locations, and more.

Oct. 27-30: MediaFest22

The MediaFest journalism conference is organized by the Society for Professional Journalists, Associated Collegiate Press, and College Media Association. Journalists with all levels of experience will head to Washington, D.C., to hear from renowned speakers, take place in workshops, and network. Among the list of speakers: legendary reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein will discuss their work to mark the 50th anniversary of the Watergate break-in. Some of the unique topics to be covered include the use of body cam footage, FOIA requests, Twitter best practices, and freelancing.
