We’re at the midpoint of Pride Month and as events take place across the country to celebrate LGBTQIA+ struggles and triumphs, finding trusted news sources is more important than ever. Social media postings, AI-generated content and clickbait can clog up search engine results, making the search for reliable news and data more time-consuming.
By utilizing the ongoing work of nationally recognized organizations, reporters and the public can access reliable information quickly and easily. These large, established organizations provide a wide view of what’s happening in the LGBTQIA+ community.
Here are several reliable national organizations on the front lines of LGBTQIA+ news and events.

The non-profit established in 1980 by Steve Endean works to support equal rights for LGBTQIA+ people. With its attention to political activism and policy decisions focused on the LGBTQIA+ community, the HRC provides up-to-date news and offers education and advocacy.

NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists
The LGBTQIA+ community touches every industry, including journalism. The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists, formed in 1991, is a non-profit that provides advocacy and support to LGBTQIA+ journalists. It works to ensure that LGBTQIA+ news coverage includes authentic voices to provide the best possible story.
NLGJA offers several resources for journalists, including:
- An LGBTQ+ Stylebook.
- A rapid response team for newsrooms, a panel of working reporters that “answers complaints about reporting seen as unfair and/or inaccurate by readers, viewers, listeners and our peer journalists.”
- A members-only job board.
National organizations focused on LGBTQIA+ rights and news provide clear, comprehensive information that journalists can utilize to provide context for local or national stories. These groups not only teach you about Pride’s past and where it’s going, but they also share personal stories from within the community that bigger news outlets might miss.
Staying up-to-date with these and other prominent LGBTQIA+ organizations is critical for journalists covering the community during Pride Month and beyond.
