Welcome to Blog Profiles! Each week, we select a topic and handful of blogs that do a great job contributing to the conversation. Do you have a blog that deserves recognition? Tweet our writers at @BeyondBylines.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of optimizing online content to improve the chances that it will show as a top result on search engine results pages, which in turn generates more organic (unpaid) and quality traffic to your website.
Search engine guidelines are constantly changing and the companies are notoriously vague or secretive about how the algorithms work. Because of that, following the best SEO blogs is a great way to stay on top of the latest changes and make sure your SEO efforts are successful.
Like my lists of camping blogs, I couldn’t decide on only four SEO blogs to recognize. Keep an eye out for four more favorites posting on September 3.
Let’s jump in.
1. The Moz Blog
Moz has been around since 2004 and is one of the most trusted sites for learning about SEO. If you’ve never read their Beginner’s Guide to SEO, read it, learn it, bookmark it.
The blog is updated regularly and covers SEO advice, how-to’s, research, and more.
I’d also recommend checking out the site’s Whiteboard Friday video posts, in which experts simplify complicated SEO concepts in about 10 minutes — with the help of a whiteboard, of course.

Search Engine Land is host of the popular SMX (Search Marketing Expo) conferences and covers “breaking stories, industry trends, feature announcements and product changes at popular platforms used by search marketers to reach consumers online.”
Topics include SEO — which also is broken down into mobile and local categories — search engine marketing, Google, Bing, and social media.

3. Neil Patel
Neil Patel is a bestselling author and one of the top experts on SEO and digital marketing. He has generated a dedicated following, with more than 300K followers for both his YouTube and Twitter profiles.
Patel’s site is broken down into four main sections: steps for creating a blog; learning about and using his SEO tools; continuing your SEO education through in-depth blog posts; and a podcast for further learning.
The blog content can be filtered by topic and includes posts on social media, content marketing, conversion rates, and entrepreneurship.

Search Engine Journal is a great resource for news and best practices in the SEO and social media industries. The site has several SEO-related guides for beginners, link building, tools, and technical SEO.
The “Ask an SEO” column answers readers’ top SEO questions and are some of my favorite posts to read.
I recommend checking out each section of the site – you’ll continue to find relevant articles to help you learn more about content and site optimization.
