5 Black Culture News Sites to Start Following

From time to time, an industry or subject inspires us to create a best-of list. In case you’ve missed some of these, you can find them here. In our latest roundup, we’re recognizing a few news sites dedicated to covering Black culture. If you think your site should be considered, give us a holler and tell us why.

As we honor Black History Month, we celebrate and remember the important people and events that make up our history, American history.

According to historian Christopher Reed, Black newspapers were very instrumental in “pulling African Americans together after slavery into cohesive communities.” The first Black-owned and operated newspaper, Freedom’s Journal, which was founded in 1827, was prominent in the advocacy of African Americans by African Americans. The first edition of the newspaper noted: “We wish to plead our own cause. Too long have others spoken for us.” That sentiment trailblazed a special history of news for and by African Americans since.

Fast forward to today, news for and by African Americans is more readily available than it ever has been. Over the years, we’ve shared the top lifestyle sites for the Black community and the 10 influential black journalists you should follow.

Now, we’d like to introduce you to five African American news sites you may not know about that are covering news for Black Americans and all Americans.
