Our 2022 Gift Guide for Journalists & Bloggers
This season we’re giving new meaning to earned media, focusing on giving back to the individuals that entertain, educate, and inform. For our 2022 Gift Guide, you’ll find a fresh mix of ideas to treat that special someone with the gift they’ve earned.
No sense in wasting any time, let’s get to the list. We’ve checked it twice, ensuring you’re ready to deck your friends and family’s halls with something nice!
Practical Perfection
With an inside scoop from Bridget Chavez, a Seattle-based, two-time, Emmy award-winning journalist, we begin the 2022 guide with four must-haves. All of these gift options are perfect for the no-fuss essential workers we love.
Pens: Put a [digital] pin in it and call Ripley’s, because yes, journalists and bloggers still use pens.
- Fun: A spirited choice for writing stories that’ll surely add a feather to their cap.
- Fancy: The perfect pick [me up] for when they’re feeling blue. Tiffany’s blue, that is.
- Functional: Whether they’re reporting from the eye of a hurricane or the press cabin in Air Force One, this patented pen can handle the pressure (and the water)!
5×8 Notebooks: Specific, I know….
- Fun: It was news to me that an underwater notebook was on the table, but now that it is, it seems ideal for their next investigative deep dive.
- (not) Fancy: Let’s not be silly, a notebook is a notebook after all. But maybe a personalized portfolio is the way to go if you’re looking to add that little something #extra.
- Functional: A professional 5×8 notebook that’s easy to carry and includes prompts for on-the-go reporters. This is proof of the power of a well-crafted Amazon search… It’s like they knew we were on the hunt!
Headphones: Sounds like a self-explanatory winner to me.
Bridget and I are two peas in a [Air]Pod, so I’ll defer to an expert worth listening to for an objective ear: The Best Headphones To Buy in 2022
Reusable Water Bottle: Did someone say fun, filtered, and fabulous?
- Fun: Hot off the Pressa, we have a two-for-one special, perfect for when life gives them lemons…
- Fancy: It’s not for me, it’s for the planet… At least that’s what I imagine Donatella said as she sent this Barocco print bottle into production.
- Functional: Without revealing my sources, rumor has it that our beloved Brita has left the building with a bottle that users can take to the streets! After all, what’s not to love about flawless, on-the-go filtration?
Sentimental Savings
Not every gift needs to break the bank. So, let’s aim for happy tears with an idea thoughtful enough that you’ll have them reporting back to their family and friends.
A video compilation from loved ones sharing messages of support, favorite pastimes, and/or words of encouragement for the new year can make for a heart-warming and cherished gift.
12 Birds, One Gift
A few options to spread out the love….
- Fun: You may be aware of my proclivity for skincare. If not, just know it comes down to self care being healthcare. BeautyPie is a one-stop shop that’s perfect for putting together a kit of goodies like the overnight skin protector and undereye energy peptide-infusion cream. Both of which anyone with sensitive skin would be keen to receive in their stocking.
- Fancy: A fan of last year’s gift guide suggested this “inkvent” calendar to complement a gift recipient’s quill pen. That’s right, we listen! Keep the ideas coming, my friends.
- Practical: Whether they’re on deadline, or languished from hitting their last, I imagine that trip to the market fell to the bottom of a journalist or blogger’s list. A hangry intellect is never fun, and it’s an unnecessary evil when there’s a sea of DIY and no-prep meal delivery options.
The Author’s Personal Picks
Looking to pack a [verified] punch? Well, here are a few personal picks that I’ve used or gifted and are worthy of primetime praise. You’re welcome.
- Fun: If you know, you know. If not, I’m here to tell you that Costco’s wine advent calendar is a seasonal sensation that lives up to the hype.
- Fancy: If I do write so myself, it’s hard to beat the New York Times’ Ultimate Birthday Book. Check it out and tell me I’m wrong. You won’t but you know where to find me.
- Functional: Shout out to The View’s “View Your Deal” for bringing these fun, collapsible vases, lanterns, and pet bowls into the mix. They’re perfect for small spaces and easy to pack for wherever a journalist’s next story may take them!
Ho-ho-hopefully you found the perfect gift. Until next year, cheers and happy holidays!
